Interstate 81 south took us to Interstate 40 west and to our next stop Nashville, Tennessee. We checked in to the hotel made sure Slinky was comfortable and went downtown to Broadway and the Honky Tonk of Nashville.
First stop was for lunch at Rock Bottom Brewery. The beer was good but the food was Rock Bottom. We sat outside on the street and noticed quite a few bachelorette parties and a couple of bachelor parties. In other words drinking started early.
Next stop the Johnny Cash Museum. Being a Saturday it was packed and a long line to get in. That and the $20.00 admission price chased us away but I bought a shirt at the Johnny Cash store.
Next stop Tootsies, one of the oldest, if not the oldest Honky Tonk in Nashville. It’s a tiny 3-story place and I don’t think the Fire Marshall comes around much. We got there around 3:00 pm and you could hear the music coming out of Tootsies down the street. The bar was 2 deep and to get in you had to squeeze through a crowded aisle. We made it in and found a place to stand in the back. Diane and I are far, really far from being country music fans but this place was fun. We noticed that everyone besides us knew the words to every song and loudly sang along. People were paying $20 to request a song. If you wanted to hear Free Bird that would cost $100. Crazy stuff! We each had a couple of drinks here because it was fun to be in there.
We then went into 2 more Honky Tonks but they didn’t hold up to Tootsies. Then we found a blues bar and sat there for a couple of hours and listened to good music. After the blues bar we called it a night and went to join Slinky.
