First off today was the Capitol. We walked down the Mall and around to the front side of the Capitol. It wasn’t very busy so we got right in and scheduled for the next tour of the Capitol. We had a great tour guide who knew absolutely everything about the Capitol. Both of us were very complimentary of our guide, we learned a lot and got some nice photos.
We walked across the street to the Supreme Court. They weren’t letting anybody inside, we don’t know why but we guessed it was because the court was not in session. However, we did get some good photos of the outside of the building.
After a bite to eat we went back to the World War II and Lincoln Memorials as Diane’s camera memory stick was full and we didn’t bring a back-up the other day when we were here. After taking a bunch of pictures we went over to the tidal basin. First stop was the Korean War Veterans Memorial then the Martin Luther King Memorial then the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and finally the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. As I said the other day all of these memorials are awe-inspiring and hard to describe in words but you can Google them and read all about them.
We stayed at the Jefferson Memorial for just over an hour waiting for darkness to settle in. We wanted to get pictures of the Memorials with lights on them. So we walked back the way we came and got some good shots in the dusk/dark even with the phones.
By the time we got back to the Gauthier’s at 10:00 pm we had walked 8 ¾ miles.
Wow! Spectacular photos!
I love the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial! I heard about it, but never saw it completed, I guess.
I especially like the Roosevelt saying about hating war. I, too, hate war.
Very cool that you got to see the things at night.
