It rained over night as the forecast said it would and it was still raining when we woke up. We decided to go to Waterbury for breakfast which was just down the road from our Campground and we were scheduled to stay the night further south at the Green Mountain Family Campground just north of Bristol. We had a nice relaxing breakfast at Maxi’s while watching it rain outside.
After breakfast we made our way to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory just north of Maxi’s. What could be better at 9:00 am then a sample of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream? We took the factory tour and listened to Ben & Jerry speak about their “Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival,” which hopes to promote economic and racial justice. A very timely campaign and Ben & Jerry’s has donated to the cause. After the tour we were given a sample of Phish Food, one of their best-selling ice creams. If you have never had Phish Food and you like chocolate ice cream get right down to the nearest store now and enjoy Phish Food.
After Ben & Jerry’s we stopped in Waterbury at the Green Mountain Coffee store then took the scenic route to Bristol. It was still raining but we had a great time and saw a lot of beautiful vistas. We stopped by the Green Mountain Family Campground to see our campsite and get orientated because we planned to stay in town until after dark. We wanted to have dinner at the Bobcat Café and Brewery but that didn’t open until 4:30 so we went across the street to the Bristol Cliffs Café had a coffee and used their Wi-Fi to post on the blog.
We had a great time in Bristol. Downtown was one block on each side of the street. Everyone we met was very nice including the staff at the Bristol Cliffs Café and the shops that we went in. The Bobcat Café and Brewery was fantastic. The beer was good but more important the atmosphere and the people sitting at the bar with us were nice, conversational and very interesting. The bartender was a great guy who once worked at the wild animal park near Escondido.
