We lounged around the campsite in the morning. Then early afternoon we went to The Alchemist Brewery here in Stowe. The Alchemist Brewery is famous in the brewery world. In 2003 John and Jan Kimmich opened a 60 seat brew pub featuring their beer. After 8 years of success they decided to open a small production brewery. Today they have 2 breweries, Here in Stowe and the other in Waterbury, their hallmark beer Heady Topper is a double IPA and you can only buy it or any of their other beers at the brewery or at select places within a 25 mile radius of the brewery.
They had 3 beers for tasting, Heady Topper, Focal Banger and Crusher and we tried all three. Diane and I like Heady Topper but we have to be careful as it is 8% ABV. This beer has just the right amount of hops and the right varieties of hops for us. Interestingly, all their hops are grown in the Willamette Valley in Washington.
We bought some to bring home. Hooray!
After the tasting we had to have more so we returned to the Public House in Stowe. Today was an unusually warm day for this time of year in Stowe. I think the high temperature was 79 degrees. So we sat outside and ended up having a great conversation with two guys who currently live in the Boston area but have lived in Palm Springs and they knew where Laguna Beach is.
After our beers we walked down the street to Harrison’s for dinner and soon found out that they were booked for the night. Just as we were leaving and in the parking lot the hostess came out and told us there had just been a cancellation and they had a table for us. They had a couple of veggie options for us. We had a great time and the food was very good.
The Alchemist Brewery faces are great…Got any Tee shirts?
