October 4th

We decided to go north today and see what we can see.  Our first stop was another part of the Acadian National Park, Schoodic Point.  You can see Schoodic Point from Bar Harbor but it is a long drive to get there.  We drove out to the point where we could look back at Bar Harbor.  On the other side of the point we could look north and see other small islands.  We saw Bunkers Harbor, Birch Harbor, Prospect Harbor and a few other small harbors as we continued north.  Like Bass Harbor or Bar Harbor these other harbors were almost 100% lobster fisherman.

We stayed mostly on US Hwy 1 but strayed occasionally to get closer to the coast.  The last bit of our tour we went east on State Hwy 187 to Indian River and eventually Jonesport where we decided to go back.  At this point we were about 30 miles from Canada and about as far away from Laguna Beach as we could get in the contiguous United States.

We saw groves of fall colors on or drive, tiny towns and not much else.  This part of Maine was pretty sparse, towns and people.

After we were back in Bar Harbor Diane found a new dinner place for us to try, The Blue Door.  The Blue Door didn’t open until 5:30 so we had time for a beer at the Atlantic Brewing Company.

The Blue door was fantastic.  It was small, cozy and very homey.  The menu was brief but almost all of the entrees had a tofu option.  We ordered their hot apple cider with rum.  Very tasty.  We chose to have the Café Salad and a bowl of their Cajun style black bean and corn soup for openers which we shared.  Both were very delicious.  We also ordered Korean BBQ Tofu and Philippine BBQ Tofu which we also shared.  These entrees came with jasmine rice and vegetables. The whole meal was perfectly portioned and super delicious.  Our dessert option was an apple, maple syrup sundae.  A very nice end to a wonderful dinner.

The owner of restaurant was our server and all the dinner recipes were hers.  She was very joyful and I think she was at least a 4th generation of Bar Harbor.  She told us a little bit about the town and how much it has changed in the last 40 years.  We saw other items on the menu that we wanted to try and told her we would see her tomorrow.  It was a fun night.
