Going to bed early most of the time leads to waking early and we were up early. It was grey and raining so we showered quickly and got on the road to our next destination, Bass Harbor Campground in Maine. Diane had planned a 5-6 hour scenic drive for today but we scrapped that because of the weather. We went east on US Hwy 2 found some coffee at a nice little bakery in Bethel then continued east until just before Dryden where we turned south on State Hwy 17. State Hwy 17 led us to Augusta and US Hwy 202 east to Belfast. From Belfast it was north on US Hwy 1 to Ellsworth then State Hwy 3 south to State Hwy 102 south to the Bass Harbor Campground.
We had booked a yurt at the Bass Harbor Campground on the recommendation of the owner because of the weather at this time of year. The rain had subsided somewhat when we arrived but it was cold. We immediately turned on the heater in the yurt and brought our heater in to help warm up the place. We were thankful that the owner suggested that we book the yurt while we were moving our things from the van to the yurt.
After we had warmed up the yurt we drove over to Bar Harbor, about a 45 minute drive, as Bass Harbor doesn’t really have a town. In Bar Harbor we found Atlantic Brewing Company and stopped in to taste some of their beer. The beer was good, the staff was very friendly and we liked the vibe. The brewery was in the back and occupied about half of the building and the front half was split between beer tasting and a restaurant. They also had seating in the second floor mezzanine.
We were hungry and we found a Thai restaurant just around the corner from the brewery. We ordered veggie spring rolls for starters and we noticed that the dipping sauce had a little honey mixed in with the traditional sweet chili sauce. We had no idea that they would add honey to everything. We both ordered medium spicy drunken noodles and apparently, the noodles got drunk with honey. Our meals were way too sweet. There goes our streak of finding good Thai food.
We drove back to the yurt in light rain and it was getting colder. We re-warmed up the yurt and settled in for the night.
