We are staying at the Tree Corners Family Campground. It is about 7 or 8 miles south of Newport, sits mostly in farmland and is at the intersection of State Hwy 14 and State Hwy 58. We have a beautiful view from our campsite when it’s not raining. We look across a valley to a hillside of fall colors.
It was grey, windy and raining when we got up. We decided that we would run a few errands and stay around Newport and wait for a better day to drive around the countryside.
Newport sits on Lake Memphremagog and has a population of about 4,300. Lake Memphremagog is 31 miles long with 73 percent of the lake surface in Canada but 75 percent of its watershed is in Vermont. Lake Memphremagog allegedly contains a monster named Memphre, which has received sightings since the 18th century and continues on in the folklore of the area. A sighting of Memphre was reported in 2000. Take that Loch Ness.
We drove around town, did a little sightseeing and finished our errands. Yes, it was still raining. We ended up at the Tavern on the Hill for lunner. There was some interesting people in the Tavern, the food was OK but the beer was cold.
We drove back to our campsite and settled in our living room, the E-Z up, for the evening.
