We were still enjoying the little cold spell. Of course I’m joking. We had cocoa and Diane cooked sliced tart apples with honey, cinnamon and maple cheddar cheese for breakfast to warm us up. After breakfast and showers we went sightseeing. We started off with the Adirondack Visitor Center at Blue Mountain Lake. Then we drove north on State Hwy 30 to Tupper Lake then northeast on State Hwy 3 to Saranac Lake then State Hwy 86 to Lake Placid. There wasn’t too much traffic so driving was a bit easier than normal. Again we were noticing the change in the fall colors as we were driving.
Saranac Lake was beautiful and it appeared that there were still vacationers around the lake. Traffic in Saranac Lake was a little tough but we survived. Traffic in Lake Placid was a little tough as well but that was expected as Lake Placid has hosted the Winter Olympics and is still a Winter Olympics training area. We saw the building that hosted “The Miracle on Ice,” the 1980 semi-final ice hockey game between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. If you don’t remember, the U.S. was a huge underdog in this match but they pulled out the win in front of their hometown crowd.
We had a late lunch/early dinner (lunner) at the Lake Placid Brewery. The food was good as was the beer. We had a feeling that most of the people in the Brewery were Jonesing for the first snowfall so they could enjoy their winter sport of choice.
We drove back to the campground, built a fire and settled in for the night.
