Today was all about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. We Ubered to the Ferry in Jersey City and bought tickets to Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty and finally to Battery Park at the southern end of Manhattan. It was Sunday so we knew it would be crowded and that this would take most of the day.
Ellis Island was very interesting. Both Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are both National Parks. The National Park Service has refurbished the entire Ellis Island facilities. We walked through most of the exhibits and it pretty much brought home what we had learned in school. Those were tough times for immigrants and US citizens.
There’s not much you can add to what you already know about the Statue of Liberty except its majestic presence. If you are ever in New York take the ferry out and you will know what I mean. Besides the 2 Islands there are great photo opportunities on the ferry routes.
After docking at Battery Park we walked up to Wall Street. The Wall Street Bull was getting molested, even on a Sunday, so we stayed away from that but we did get some photos of the NYSE and other Wall Street buildings.
We continued walking up Broadway to Greenwich Village, about an hour’s walk, we were thinking of Thai food for dinner so we stopped in the GMT Tavern in Greenwich Village. I’m not sure they kept the correct time but they had cold beer. We researched Thai food restaurants in the area and settled on Top Thai. Reservations were recommended so we quickly called Top Thai and made reservations for 6:30.
When we got to Top Thai we realized the necessity for reservations. The place was “a hole in the wall.” They could only seat about 20 people at one time. One of the reasons we chose Top Thai besides the very high Yelp ratings was that they had numerous veggie options. I’m not going to bore you with what we ordered. Just let me say that it was the best southern Thai food on this trip. We were very, very happy, then we Ubered back to the hotel.
GREAT pics!!
