After coffee, showers and relaxing a bit it was laundry day. There is a laundromat in Cranberry Lake so we loaded up Slinky and headed for town. The laundromat was small as were the washing machines so we were there for a couple of hours. While we were at the laundromat Diane was talking to a lady that was somewhat of a local and found out that there was a pub, Thirsty Moose down the road about a 15 – 20 minute drive. Sounded good to us so after laundry was done that’s where we went.
We got to the Thirsty Moose about 4:00 and we were there first customers of the day. The Thirsty Moose had a bar and an adjoining dining area. The décor was what you would expect in a woodsy area such as the Adirondak Mountains, knotty pine and other local woods were on display at the bar and walls. It was a nice place and as we found out later a local’s watering hole.
There was nothing special about the beer list or liquor list but the beer was cold. We talked with the bartender, she had moved into this area about 4 years ago. She used to be just a patron of the Thirsty Moose until a few months ago when she started bartending here. We asked her if this was a slow time of year and it was but surprisingly she said their busiest time of year was the winter months. Everybody has a snowmobile, or “sled” as the locals refer to them and there are numerous sled paths so they don’t have to be on the highway. The parking lot at Thirsty Moose is always crowded with sleds. I enquired about drinking and sledding and it’s the same as driving a car. The local cops have sleds and are always driving the paths. Who knew?
We had fun at the Thirsty Moose and after a couple of beers and meeting another local, a nice guy, we drove back to our campground at Cranberry Lake. Diane made a wonderful dinner to end a nice day.
Wow! What an ample dashboard for Slinky to sunbathe on!
