It had rained during the night and was still at it when we left Buffalo and headed to the REI in Rochester to get a couple of things. After we told one of the employees in REI about or trip and next destinations he told us not to miss the Alchemist Brewery in Stowe, Vermont. He said their IPA, Heady Topper has won a lot of awards and is something you shouldn’t miss. Duly noted!
Our next destination was Cranberry Lake in the Adirondak Mountains in upstate New York. We took numerous state and county roads to get to Cranberry Lake. If you haven’t noticed these kind of roads have been our main mode of travel for this entire trip. On our way to Cranberry Lake we drove through numerous small towns and very nice countryside’s. Here in the northeast some of these small towns and hamlets have been around for over 200 years. It is also interesting looking at buildings, homes and businesses when driving through these small towns. Some have been kept up or refurbished and look just like they were built decades ago.
After leaving Rochester and a few different state and county roads we eventually got on State Hwy 3 in Pulaski, NY. This road took us all the way to Cranberry Lake. Quite a beautiful drive all the way.
By the way, after we talked about going to New York City we decided to stay 4 nights and see Hazmat Modine and be tourists. Diane booked us for 4 nights into the cat friendly Red Roof Inn in Secaucus, New Jersey which is just across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Diane also cancelled the campground we were going to stay in and we called Terra Blues and reserved 2 seats for Saturday night’s Hazmat Modine’s show. We were in. Yahoo!
Cranberry Lake State Park has over 100 campsites. I think only about 25 of them were being used. It had rained the night before and scared people away.
The band’s name means ‘hazardous heat’ perhaps? Clever.
