This day was devoted to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.  This is one of the places that we were told by Josh and Carol’s friends not to miss.  We started off with the Presque River Falls that are made up of 3 separate falls, the Nawadaha Falls, the Manido Falls and the Manabezho Falls.  The state park has made a very nice walk along the Presque Isle River to view these falls that was probably 3 miles long there and back.  It was a beautiful day and the falls were running strong due to the recent rains.  It was more Thai iced tea but the contrast of the sky and water were good for photos.  We took many photos.

Our next stop was a walk to the mountain tower.  The walk to the base of the tower was about ½ mile and it was beautiful. We took quite few photos on the walk as the sun filtering through the trees was really nice.  The tower was similar to the one we climbed on Washington Island off the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin.  It was nice viewing the vistas but we couldn’t quite see the Lake of the Clouds our next destination.  But we could see the valley that fed water to the Lake of the Clouds.

The Lake of the Clouds is at the “End of the World.”  The coastal route along Lake Superior ends at Lake of the Clouds.  As you approach the lake on the coastal route you gradually rise up a small mountain.  When you get to the “End of the World” you can almost drive up to the Lake of the Clouds.  After parking it’s only about a 100 yard walk.

When you get to the lake you are looking down quite a ways.  It seemed to me to be a kind of optical illusion.  Because when we were driving along the coast of Lake Superior and we started to climb the small mountain I didn’t think we had climbed that much.  But when you look at the lake it seems to be below Lake Superior in elevation.

After Lake of the Clouds we drove part way up the Keweenaw Peninsula on Lake Superior to Houghton then along Portage Lake and Keweenaw Bay to L’Anse, also part of Lake Superior.  We camped in L’Anse on the east side of Keweenaw Bay.  It was a nice campsite with a great view of the bay.  Sunset over the bay was great.
