We slept well that night and woke up to blue skies and sunshine. The good weather made it way easier for us to pack up our campsite. We hit the road at about 10:30 am on our way to Amicon Falls State Park in Northeast Wisconsin. After talking with a couple of Josh and Carol’s friends we rerouted our plans around the Great Lakes. Drew and Jeremy both suggested that driving along the south shore of Lake Superior on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan would be a better and more scenic trip. So Amicon Falls State Park was our first stop.
To get to our destination for the day we were on highways and sometimes freeways on the west side of Wisconsin for the entire length of the state. This part of Wisconsin was almost entirely farmland. It was mostly flat with some rolling hills.
Early on we were driving through a small valley of mostly cornfields and we noticed a lot of department of transportation vehicles up ahead. Looking around we saw that a creek had backed up and flooded parts of the road and parts of numerous cornfields. Bummer! We also saw some trees down not from the roots but halfway up the trunk. Lightning maybe?? Other than this semi devastated area it was a beautiful drive.
This trip took most of the day and we arrived to the campground in early evening just as it started to rain a little bit. We passed a grill pub on our way to the park so we decided not to cook. We found our campsite and we had planned to sleep in the car because we were only staying one night so we setup the van for sleeping and took off for the grill pub.
As it was past Labor Day the grill pub was not very busy, mostly locals. We had a couple of beers, a veggie pizza and a salad. We had a good time and drove back to the campground and hit the hay.
