We had coffee and showers then got on the road to Sioux Narrows in Lake of the Woods, Ontario Canada. Lake of the Woods is over 70 miles long and wide, and contains 14,552 islands and 65,000 miles of shoreline. It is mostly in Canada but a small portion is in Minnesota. We were excited to being going in that direction.
Driving away from Lake Winnipeg we saw farm after farm of potatoes. We learned that most of the potatoes were Russets and Burbanks and a small portion were sweet potatoes. This area provides about 50% of all the french fries in Canada. There was also quite a few fields of sunflowers along our route to Lake of the Woods. After leaving farm land and entering forest land we spotted a moose cross the road a couple 100 yards ahead of us. Adding to the beauty was the drive through Whiteshell Provincial Park. It was a hilly and a little rocky but the wild flowers and trees were beautiful. We stopped in Kenora for supplies and then we were on our way to Sioux Narrows.
Our campsite at Sioux Narrows was beautiful. We could see the Lake of the Woods and 2 of the islands from our campsite. The campground ranger mentioned Big John’s Restaurant and Tavern right on the lake for afternoon and possible dinner fun. But when we got there they were having sewage and electrical problems so we had our dinner at the campsite overlooking the lake. The Sioux Narrows community was nice. We hope to return.
That’s a Minnesota grouse!
There are California grouse, but, for as long as I’ve lived here, and a number of years in rural areas, I’ve seen a total of three, maybe four.
Oh, sorry ! I thought you were in MN.
That’s an Ontario grouse…LOL…a ruffled grouse.
