We didn’t see any moose while we were at Moose Mountain but we did see a few beaver houses but no beavers.
On Monday, 8/15 we were on Canada Hwy 1, Or “Trans Canada Hwy” for just a bit of time. Tuesday we basically lived on the Trans Canada Hwy. We were on it from Medicine Hat in Alberta to Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan. Then split off southeast on Provincial Hwy 39 to get to Mouse Mountain Provincial Park. Today we took Provincial Hwy 48 to Virden, Manitoba and joined with the Trans Canada Hwy which we took all the way to Winnipeg. The air was somewhat better than the last few days and we could actually see some scenery. More wheat field after wheat field; silos, big and small; and lots of hay rolls. Then we traversed some small roads to get to the Grand Beach Campground on Lake Winnipeg.
We set up camp as quickly as we could then headed for the beach. We walked about 2 miles south to West Beach and back. It was a nice walk, the sand was extraordinarily soft, definitely from river silt. It was a little humid and a little smoky but not bad. The lake water was nice.
Aloha Slinkliliput! Great travels! I hitchhicked the TransCan from Thunder Bay Ontario to Vancouver… I stood on the side of the road in Moose Jaw and looked at the map…. and, WOW, I felt mighty far away…..
Boy! Lake Winnipeg looks vast and a little forlorn….all the way to another country..you sure get around…coming back I hope…safe travels
