Originally we had planned to go into the Banff/Lake Louise area for maybe a couple of weeks but the fires and smoke added Alberta to our do-over list. So today we were going east until I tried to start the van and the battery was dead.
The van has a safety feature that doesn’t jive with a campervan. If any door is left open, you can imagine how many times that happens in a campervan, the parking lights (front and rear) and the license plate light stay on until you close all open doors or 10-15 minutes have passed. Hard on the battery. We have an emergency car starter that works like jumper cables to another car so we were able to get going. But this is the third time this has happened this week so it was time to get a new battery.
We were headed to the Beaver Creek Campground in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park which is south of Medicine Hat, Alberta. By the way, it was smoky all the way. We decided to stop in Lethbridge, which was on the way, to get a new battery. The folks at Canadian Energy were great and we were out of there in 30 minutes with a new battery. After getting a new battery we stopped by a local deli for lunch and off we were to our campsite.
The Beaver Creek campground was nice, the lake and all its fun, nice bike trails and playgrounds for the kids. The Canadians know how to build a campground. After a few beers and some cheese, avocado and tomato crackers it was off to bed.
