The early morning was lazy. We watched more of the Wenatchee River and planned our day in Leavenworth.
The first thing we wanted to do was the walk the Riverwalk and find a beach where we could take a dip in the Wenatchee. The walk was nice. It wandered through the natural trees and brush of the river. Most of the walk was in the shade which was good as the high temperature of the day was going to be 95 degrees. Toward the end of the walk we found a nice beach for our dip, The water was about the same temperature as the Deschutes a couple of weeks ago but not as cold as the South Fork of the McKenzie River or the Hoh River. I’m pretty sure that the only thing colder than the Hoh River is ice. I’m not saying it was easy getting into the Wenatchee but we did it. It helped that the air was a little dry and about 88 or 90 degrees when we took our dips. We air dried pretty fast and went to find a bite and a beer.
Another of the highlights of the walk was at the beach where we dipped in the river a mother duck and about 9 ducklings swam by. The mother was about 1/3 the size of a mallard (I have no idea what species it was) and the ducklings were proportional. The ducklings swam and dived near shore than flew/ran-on-water to catch up with their mother after diving. It was very fun to watch.
Lunch was splitting a Bavarian pretzel and a vegetarian bratwurst hot dog. They had about 20 blends of mustard to choose from for both the pretzel and hot dog. The beer was cold. We had a very nice lunch on the patio under water misters. After lunch we had another beer at Icicle Brewery, another very tasty IPA. Then we went back to the cabin to relax before our belated 32nd anniversary dinner.
A bottle of wine and Italian food hit the spot for dinner. After dinner we visited a very unique distillery, Blue Spirits. For a small tasting fee you could taste three different 120 proof potato vodkas. They would pour three ½ shots of your choice of infused 120 proof potato vodkas. They suggested that you taste each type by dipping a finger into the shot glass. Then they would make a mini version of your favorite vodka drinks out of each shot glass. Very fun and very good after dinner drink. A nice end to our evening in Leavenworth other than sitting on our balcony watching the Wenatchee drift by when we returned to our cabin.
