The drive to the Hoh River Rainforest in the Olympic National Park was nice and easy. Even though we were on Hwy 101 in July there was very light traffic. During most of the drive we were surrounded by forests.
The Hoh River has a blue/grey color that makes it look really cold. The river is basically glacier melt. Glacier snow is filled with oxygen and minerals and these make the river look blue/grey. The water IS really cold.
We got to the Hoh River Campground about 1:00 pm and set up camp. Then it was off to the Hall of Mosses trail. The average annual rainfall in the Hoh River Rainforest is 138 inches. So it’s easy to understand why there is a lot of moss. The walk was beautiful.
This is the same trail that I walked 38 years ago with the Sweeney family, Yana, Josh, Patty and Geoff. Yana and Josh do you remember? Do these pictures ring any bells? Just kidding. Yana and Josh were 3 and 4 at the time.
Back at the camp Diane made a delicious batch of macaroni and cheese.
How great you returned to the scene of a wonderful memory of S O L O N G A G O !!!
I love mosses and ferns. I just am not that crazy about bunches of rain.
138 inches is way too much!!
Hi Diane, we were just at Lake Quinault July 12th or so. Ocean shores, too. Kevin and Meg
