We began the day taking the short drive to Cape Meares. There is a lighthouse and day use state park at the end of the cape. It was still overcast and sometimes foggy but we got some nice photos. The house on top of what looks like a big rock was interesting.
Cape Meares is close to Tillamook and the Tillamook Creamery is right on Hwy 101. We had to stop. It is quite the tourist attraction. It was about 10:30 when we pulled into the parking lot and the place was bustling. You can take a tour of the creamery, sample cheeses, shop (you can buy cheddar cheese colored shirts), get food (I’m sure grilled cheese sandwiches were on the menu), and buy Tillamook ice cream. We did not know that Tillamook made ice cream so we had ice cream for breakfast, which was delicious, bought some cheese and crackers and continued north.
We had been in Oregon for almost a month so soon after Tillamook we entered Washington. We were looking for campgrounds near Ocean Park but that didn’t work out so we went up to Westport where we found a private campground with campsites or you could stay in a cabin. It was a nice place. Our campsite was one of about 12 making a horseshoe around a grassy playfield. They had a reception area with a little bar/café. We sampled beer and learned a little about the area and the company that owns this site.
Camping with computers!!
What next!??!
Did the giant sandbox come with the site?
