July 11th

Posted on July 18, 2018 by perkindiane@gmail.com

Today we were on the prowl for waterfalls.  Yesterday you saw photos of the beginning of the McKenzie River as it left Clear Lake.  We picked up the river less than ¼ mile from that spot.  Yesterday’s photos depicted a mellow river.  Just a ¼ mile downstream the terrain began to drop and the river was moving quite a bit faster through rocky rapids.  It was amazing how much water was flowing this close to the lake.  The lake obviously has many springs along with a couple of creeks.

We walked a total of 4.8 miles from our campsite to and from the reservoir.  But I’m guessing the flow of the river to the reservoir from the lake was about 1 mile.  We came upon Koosah Falls first which is about 70 feet tall.  Next was Sahalie Falls which is about 100 feet tall.  Sahalie Falls was seen in the Disney movie Homeward Bound (1993).  We have pictures and a couple of videos.  The videos show the amount of water that this roaring river has so early in its life.
