Diane and Lauren decided to hike the Misery Trail in the Smith Rock State Park outside of Bend. The spot is a favorite for rock climbers who have mapped 1,400 routes up the cliffs lining the Crooked River. The Rocks jut up from the valley floor and are a beautiful red hue that stands out amongst the greenery along the river. The hike they chose, Misery Trail, started with a steep climb with switchbacks to the top of the Rocks. The trail then winds its way on the top of the Rocks to the other side which is the cliffs side, and features an outcropping that is called Monkey Face, which it does look like. On the way down they saw lizards, a rattle snake and a bald eagle. The hike was 5 miles and climbs 88 flights (hence the name Misery Trail).
