July 27th thru July 30th

We planned on taking Hwy 30 east, Historic Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway, to the Tri Cities in Washington to visit Diane’s cousin, Meg Maas, her husband, Kevin and their kids Katherine and Nick but the fire last year has left a lot of the route closed.  After leaving the hotel we were able to get […]

We got up early and through the trees from our campsite we could see an orange Mt. Rainier.  It would have been great to be up at Sunrise Ridge but…. We got there as soon as we could.  Beautiful vistas, beautiful photos, BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL. The Sunrise Ridge is about 6,400 feet in elevation above […]

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Loge cabins in Leavenworth.  Thanks to Diane for booking us there.  A lot of fun. Off to Mt. Rainier.  For those of you keeping track this will be our 6th National Park that we will have visited on this trip.  From Leavenworth Hwy 2 East along the Wenatchee […]

The early morning was lazy.  We watched more of the Wenatchee River and planned our day in Leavenworth. The first thing we wanted to do was the walk the Riverwalk and find a beach where we could take a dip in the Wenatchee.  The walk was nice.  It wandered through the natural trees and brush […]

Olzy took us out to breakfast at his favorite spot then it was off to Leavenworth, WA.  We drove to Kingston and took the ferry across the Puget Sound to Edmonds.  It was a beautiful day and we took a lot of pictures.  As the ferry was approaching Edmonds a pod of Orcas was feeding […]

Our friend Olzy has had a tough last 16 months.  Beginning in April of 2017 he has suffered from neuropathy.  Then in May of 2017 doctors found that he had closed or nearly closed arteries in his right leg and near his heart.  He had multiple surgeries to insert stints in to these arteries.  He […]

We got an early start because we wanted to walk a little bit of the River Trail before we had to leave our campsite.  We had coffee and began our walk about 9:00.  The River Trail will take you up to the glacier but that’s a 20 mile hike.  The first part of the trail […]

The drive to the Hoh River Rainforest in the Olympic National Park was nice and easy.  Even though we were on Hwy 101 in July there was very light traffic.  During most of the drive we were surrounded by forests. The Hoh River has a blue/grey color that makes it look really cold.  The river […]

We began the day taking the short drive to Cape Meares.  There is a lighthouse and day use state park at the end of the cape.  It was still overcast and sometimes foggy but we got some nice photos.  The house on top of what looks like a big rock was interesting. Cape Meares is […]

Looking over the map last night Diane suggested our next campground to be Cape Lookout State Park.  So off we went this morning. Driving up the coast we passed the 45th parallel where we were exactly half way between the equator and the North Pole.  Exciting.  When we got to Cape Lookout State Park a […]
