After leaving Julie and Don’s place we decided to go to Eugene for 2 days. Diane found us a cheap, pet friendly hotel as we drove then she began looking for pubs, a great copilot. We arrived in Eugene at about 3:00, cleaned up made Slinky comfortable in our room and started off to our first pub, Falling Sky. It turned out that Falling Sky is a brewery and brews delicious beers. While sitting at the bar we began a conversation with the guy sitting next to me. He told us about Dead & Company at Autzen Stadium on Saturday, 6/30 and about the Oregon Country Fair in 2 weeks in Veneta, about 30 minutes west of Eugene. It didn’t take us too long to decide we wanted to do both. It’s nice to be retired.
We bought the cheapest tickets to Dead and Company and decided attending the Oregon Country Fair for 2 of the 3 days would be adequate and bought tickets for Friday and Saturday. Found a hotel through Sunday here in Eugene and we have been here ever since.
We found out that there are quite a few breweries in Eugene so we got some exercise walking around town sampling beers on Wednesday and Thursday. As I have said we have been to Falling Sky, we also visited Sam Bond’s Garage, Ninkasi, McKenzie and Coldfire Brewing all of which have some very tasty beers.
We also contacted Brie Scriber here in Eugene. Brie, is Brad and Leslie Wood’s daughter, and her Husband Jeremy own the Jackalope Lounge. We stopped by the Jackalope and had a beer but neither Brie nor Jeremy were around but Brie contacted us later and invited us out to their place in Elmira, 30 minutes west of Eugene.
We drove out to Elmira on Friday and had a fabulous time with Brie, Jeremy and their 2 kids, Flynn (6) and Charly (2). Their place could be called a farm. They have cows, turkeys, chickens, ducks, pigs, dogs and a large vegetable garden. They also have a big grassy backyard with a jungle gym for the kids to play on. When we told them we would be back in Eugene for the Oregon Country Fair they invited us to stay at their place for that weekend without hesitation. We can walk to the fair from their place. They volunteer for the fair every year and Jeremy has supervised child care services for a few years. They told us all the ins and outs of attending the fair. Brie and Jeremy are great people and we are looking forward to seeing them again in 2 weeks.
Tune in tomorrow for the Dead and Company review.
Wish I could find the pic I took of the ladies down at the creek after your wedding, when Brie was a young teen.
I know I’m really old now, seeing her as a mom!
Interesting to me that Maria and Yana did NOT become mothers.
