We got up and left at about 8:00 after only one cup of coffee. Oh, the torture. Most of the beautiful drive was along the North Umpqua River as we rose to about 5,200 feet. As a plus there was very little traffic at that time of the morning.
Our plan was to get to the Broken Arrow Campground early to secure a site. We had heard that there was a fishing tournament on Diamond Lake where the Broken Arrow Campground is. The Broken Arrow has 120 campsites, 40 of which can be reserved and the other 80 are first come first served. We got there a little before 10:00, drove around a little bit and found site G14 empty. We parked, paid our 2-day fee of $15.00 and we were set. The first thing we did was have another cup of coffee.
The rest of the day was the blues. The North Entrance to Crater Lake National Park was only about 5 miles from our campsite and we were on our way. The blues started at our first overlook of Crater Lake. The sky was blue and the lake was bluer if not bluest. The color of the lake is astounding the first time you see it and the last time you see it. We drove around the lake and stopped at many overlooks, Blue, Blue, Blue! We had a great time except trying to find a parking spot at Rim Village on a Saturday, in the summer at a National Park. Go figure.
