Today was a day of relaxation. Mostly, Diane cleaned up the inside of the van. I had to read the racing form, after all tomorrow is the Belmont Stakes where Justify may become the 14th Triple Crown winner in 150 years. Hard work. It was pretty lucky picking this campground. We could pick up a pretty strong signal from the nearest Verizon cell tower which allowed me to get the racing form and I checked, make bets on the Belmont. Yahoo!
Today we used our solar shower for the first time. The temperature was in the low 40’s in the morning and rose to the low 70’s this afternoon. The Eshom Campground was about 4,700 ft. in elevation which kept the temperature moderate while it was much hotter down in the valley. Our campsite was situated amongst a fair number of trees on all sides with an opening in the middle where the sun shined in for a couple of hours today. At about 3:00 pm we put a hand on the solar shower and expected the black powder coated aluminum body to feel somewhat warm. It didn’t. But we needed to shower so we changed into our swim suits, hooked up the 25 ft. hose and decided to give it a whirl. Surprisingly, the water was pretty warm and we both took showers. We caught most of the water and estimated that each of us used less than 2 gallons of water. Apparently, black powdered aluminum is a good conductor of heat.
Campground host Steve came by and told us about a 30 ft. waterfall about a half hour walk from our campsite. We made a plan to go see it tomorrow before the Belmont Stakes.
Another beautiful night.
